Grey Matters

How’s it going ?

Has the Weekend treated you well so far? In this post I wanted to talk about something pretty simple on the face of it, but at the same time something that actually when I think about it makes a lot sense.

Grey…. Yes that colour that’s not quite white nor black either, the halfway house between two spectrums of the arguably the most striking colours known to man. Grey to me represents many things and encompasses many of the values that a hold. Would I say that grey is favourite colour? Well maybe in my younger years I would have answered by saying blue but with time and wisdom (I hope) I’ve come to appreciate grey as a colour.

Grey Is:

  • Subdued
  • Subtle
  • Passive
  • Emotionless
  • Composure
  • Formal
  • Practical
  • Stable
  • Calming
  • Indecisive
  • Indifferent
  • Isolated
  • Impartial

The list isn’t exhaustive but it highlights some of the values and contradictions with the colour grey. Some of these words have negative connotations but combine them with the others and there is a sort middle ground there. I guess what I am really trying to get across is how versatile grey is as a colour. It doesn’t quite stand out on it’s own but coupled with another colour or other values it can enhance or detract from either.

From a Fashion standpoint, I have loads of items of grey in wardrobe, from shoes, jeans, cardi’s to blazers. It’s such a brilliant colour to bring to life other colours such as red, black and blue. It does wonders to give a subtle look to any outfit but it can be dressed up or down. I would go as far as to say that is a fashion staple and the crux of most of my everyday and occasion looks. Grey is uber awesome in my books B-)

Personifying grey, those values I mentioned (In my opinion) do well to describe many facets of my personality and identity. Whether through some coincidence or subconscious conditioning I feel that I have become so accustomed to grey. A strong sense of conviction isn’t something that I poses but I feel as a consequence I tend to look at the “Grey Areas” of of life with a bit more thought for better or worse. I don’t like to generalise, it’s a bit of a cop out in my eyes. It probably the reason why I get along with a range of different people. An example being my closet friend, I would he was a bright, outgoing and charming. Our personalities are polar opposites but we somehow have developed a great mutual understanding of one another and a respect for our own individualisms. Over the years we’ve managed to bring out the best in one another but also highlight the negative aspects we both have and are constantly learning from one another.

I would love to go into further depths but I am sure I would sound like a bit of a head case if i delved any deeper (Laughing to himself). Grey matters, it’s a inevitability and constant in my life at the moment and I hope it stays that way. What colour do you most identify with ??

Hope the rest of your weekend is a great one!! Till the next time take care.
